Regional Workshop on TB and Workplace | Assam

Through the Corporate TB Pledge Initiative, corporates have been contributing effectively in the sphere of TB elimination and strategically investing resources, expertise and efforts into spaces such as TB Free workplaces, CSR interventions and innovative and targeted intervention for eliminating TB. For implementation of TB programs at the workplace and in their communities, Pledge members, are given periodic and necessary Technical Assistance (TA) by the iDEFEAT TB Project team in support with regional and state NTEP team.
 
TB in tea sector is a major challenge and companies are taking necessary measures to address the issue. For this purpose, peer led workplace intervention model for awareness, symptomatic screening and treatment adherence is being implemented. In this regard, the CTP secretariat as part of the iDEFEAT TB project organized a ‘Regional Level Workshop on TB and Workplaces’ in Dibrugarh, in association with State TB Cell, Assam and representatives from major tea companies based in Assam.
   
The two days’ workshop focused on magnitude of TB, its socio-economic impact and how they can actively contribute to the program through TB related interventions at their workplace and communities
 
OBJECTIVES
1. To sensitize medical officers on new diagnostics and treatment guidelines on TB
2. To sensitize HR/Operation manager/In-charge and sector functionaries on TB and workplace intervention
3. Planning and implementation of periodic active case finding and treatment adherence support mechanism.
 
The workshop entailed sessions taken by representatives from WHO, State TB Cell, Assam and The Union on various topics including Revised NTEP Guidelines and its structure, DR-TB, Workplace Intervention, Corporate TB Pledge, Peer Led Model, IEC Materials, Nikshay notification and reporting, and broad roadmap for the quarter. The workshop commenced with an inauguration session which was graced by dignitaries including Dr.RictomBorgohain, DTO Dibrugarh, Dr. P Khaund, Chairman, Medical Advisory Board, ABITA & Chief Medical Consultant, APPL, Mohd. Shadab, Senior Manager-Corporate Partnerships, The Union and Ms. Minoti Nayak, TB Champion. The dignitaries expressed their high expectations from the workshop and encouraged officials towards the endeavor.
 
Participants, including Medical Officers, Management Officials, Welfare Officers of  major tea companies (APPL, Goodricke Tea, Russel Tea, ABITA, Assam Tea Company and McLeod Russel) participated in the same.
