21-years-old Priyanka Lohora had no exposure to TB patients in her family. However, when the symptoms started to surface in her body including cough – that lasted more than 2 weeks, occasionally low grade fever, weakness and loss of weight, the health workers promptly arranged a sputum and CB-NAAT test at the nearest microscopy center. Diagnosed with MDR TB she was admitted at Jalpaiguri TB hospital for 14 days. After her discharge from the hospital, she was on medication at home for 9 months as a part of her treatment. The Goodricke health worker supported her with nutritional supplements, managing adverse drug reactions and encouraged her to complete the treatment regardless of any obstruction. All her family contacts and neighbors were also screened for TB. This resulted in her timely treatment, prevention of relapse cases and complete cure.
