Screening and Diagnostics

Screening & Diagnostics

TB mortality rates in India are largely attributed to inaccurate or late diagnosis and non-adherence to treatment protocols. Support in enhancing TB diagnostic facilities in the country by investing in increasing access to latest diagnostic equipments and innovative technologies.

Increase the access to effective screening and accurate diagnostic services for your people and communities. Support community based active case finding initiative for TB to find the missing TB patients.

Problem Statement

  • The most widely used method to diagnose TB in India – sputum smear microscopy, has low-sensitivity.
  • Many primary health centres in the country lack X-ray machines that are used as a preliminary step to diagnosing TB and, in some cases, there exists non-availability of doctors and trained man power to use them.
  • Although more acurate molecular test such as GeneXpert/CBNAAT and TruNAAT have been made available across India by the government. However, accessibility in remote areas remains a challenge.
  • Untrained first line of contact, be it allopaths or alternative medicine, also cause delay in diagnosis.

Invest to Eliminate TB

Despite TB being a curable disease and free of cost treatment being provided by the Government, India continues to have the highest incidence of TB in the world along with highest TB mortality. Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi committed to eliminate TB in India by 2025.  It is an ambitious target and there is a need for increased investments and partnerships by all sectors including the corporate sector to contribute to the goal of making India TB free. These partnerships will not only save lives but also help your brand gain the visibility it deserves as it cares for its people and communities,  and support interventions with measurable outcomes.

Delay in accurate diagnosis of tuberculosis in India is also due to untrained first line of contact, be it allopaths or alternative medicine.
